Product Information

MESSENGER SET - Fountain Pen and Ballpoint Pen

Tortoiseshell or lined brown marble - Lacquer over brass. Heavy gold plate trim.

I can find very little information regarding Messenger pens. As I understand it they were probably made by Reform Group in Germany in the 1980s specifically for the WH Smith retail stationery chain in the UK. They were good quality pens, a good weight and with excellent quality gold plate. They are quite similar in appearance to the Sheaffer Targa range. Smiths must have sold them in quite large quantities and I'm surprised that there is not more information available.

Only imprints are 'MESSENGER' on cap bands and 'Germany' on side of clips.

FOUNTAIN PEN  Measures 140mm capped and quite heavy.  Cartridge filler. takes readily available International cartridges and probably many more.

Nib has the Messenger logo and that's all. Two tone nib which I assumed was plated but it doesn't magnatise and may be gold. Whatever, it is a really super smooth MEDIUM nib - a delight to use.

BALLPOINT PEN - cap actuated ballpoint in perfect working order. Takes Parker or Smiths type refills. New refill fitted.

Both items in good condition - one or two normal usage marks but no dings, or blemishes. Gold plate particularly good.

In modern presentation box.

Have never come across Messenger before but these are quite impressive quality pens.

Shame Smiths don't sell them any more!
