Product Information

MALLAT 120 Fountain Pen.

SOLD  04/2020

Founded in 1842, Mallat of Paris, France is one of the oldest manufacturers of writing instruments in the world. In 1851 they patented the metal nib which would replace the quill and shortly after a piston filler type pen named Syphoid. Most of their fountain pen production was in the 1930s, with the 120 and 150 models, followed in the 1940s by the Plexigraph. Fountain pen production stopped in the early 1960s and their pens are now very collectable.

Offered here is the MALLAT 120 lever fill fountain pen dating from c1930. This was marketed as a fountain pen for ladies and at 115mm capped the pen is quite small.

Our example is in GREEN SNAKESKIN pattern with gold plated trim. Peaked cap stud and barrel end.

Barrel imprint 'MALLAT PARIS 120.'

Somewhat unusually this pen has the original MALLAT 18kt gold nib. They are more often seen with warranted nibs.

Nib is stamped 'Mallat 1 18Cts.' Semi-flex MEDIUM nib. Well used but writes quite smoothly.

Lever filler - fully serviced with new sac - perfect working order.

Small fault is some minor distortion to the top of the cap. This is fairly common with cellulose pens of this period particularly with the snakeskin pattern.

Overall the pen is in good condition for its age and correct in all respects.  A super addition to any collection.
