The Esterbrook Relief models were made in the UK by Conway Stewart and are excellent quality fountain pens, renowned for their quality nibs. 

This is one of the first Relief No 1 models in black vulcanite (hard rubber). As is common with HR pens it has discoloured slightly over the years but has polished beautifully.

BLACK CHASED WAVY LINE PATTERN - nickel plated 'tear drop' pocket clip stamped 'Relief' and bandless cap. Trade mark red cap band under domed cap top. This was the only model without 'R' on the filler lever.

Lever filler - Made in England - c1935 - measures 135mm closed.

Barrel imprint 'R Esterbrook & Co RELIEF No 1'  Made in Englnd around barrel end. Blank cartouche (no personal engraving).

Correct 14ct Gold nib stamped -'Relief 14ct 1 Made in England Esterbrook & Co.' Nib in top class condition.

LEFT  BROAD OBLIQUE ITALIC nib - beatifully smooth writer and a delight to use.

Lever filler - fully serviced - new sac -  write tested - perfect working  order.

Lovely looking pen, despite the slight discolouration referred to above. Nice glossy finish, nickel plated parts excellent, no cracks or scratches.

Vintage Reliefs are very collectable pens both in their own right and by Conway Stewart enthusiasts. They are renowned as super writers and this one is no exception.
