D & D La Plume d'Or MÉTÉORE SAFETY Fountain Pen

A LITTLE BACKGROUND HISTORY - La Plume d'Or was founded in 1921 by Demilly & Degan (D & D) of Paris. La Plume d'Or commenced its Météore fountain pen range in 1922 with eyedropper and safety pens in black or marbled hard rubber. The lever filler Météore fountain pens were added to the range in 1923.

The rare pen we have for sale here is, I believe, the smaller of the safety pen models.

MÉTÉORE SAFETY Pen - Made in Paris - c1922 - MARBLED HARD RUBBER - measures 90mm closed.

Flat top with band at the top which was originally white but has slightly darkened. Clipless cap.

Imprint on barrel - 'D & D Météore' also cap imprint 'Météore' both a bit rubbed but readable.

Correct 18ct Gold nib stamped 'D & D Paris 18cts' Flexible medium nib which writes beautifully smooth.

The nib of this safety pen moves in and out by turning the knob at the end of the barrel and this mechanism is in perfect working order.

Pen has been dipped to write test but I would suggest service by a safety pen specialist if you want to use the pen.

Pen is correct in all respects and in excellent condition - no cracks or splits. One or two very minor indentations which don't detract from appearance - it is after all nearly 100 years old!

Very rare pen and a gem of a collector's item.

Please see for additional pictures of pens in the range at the time.

At the moment we also have an example of the D & D Lever pen for sale - please see SN5075
